right so for now V says - I can just carry on using proton pass for all new passwordsA password manager serves several purposes:
It's safer than writing down passwords on paper for others to see
erm - what your suggesting to not write passwords yourselfIt creates stronger passwords that humans usually do
YeahIt remembers the passwords for you, so you don't have to
Right I have impaired short term memory from mercury literallyAlso, keep in mind that users of this forum have other obligations than contributing in the forum...
oh right - but saw that proton pass was less money alreadyI echo 1PASSWORD. Easy to use.
Absolutely!erm - what your suggesting to not write passwords yourself
Absolutely!
Here's an example that I just generated with 1password:
8YVvbD4AAs_jf@rQiWkJ
That's a strong password in my opinion... And if I want, I can make it 100 charachters instead of just 20...
I have one strong master password that I need to remember, and 1password remembers the rest of them for me!
You COULD do that, but I don't see the need personally. 1password not only remembers my passwords but also auto-fill them, so I only need 1 password (hence the name, I guess), and the tool takes care of the rest.Right but V says - wouldn't you say its okay to write passwords for yourself for things which are less important ?
Then yeah, as an idea now ,maybe I could try to implement using generated passwords (for things which are more secure) seeing that is also a feature on proton pass'
How about that for a system, would that work?

Right? ermAn added bonus with using a password manager, is that you become aware of what (and how many) accounts you actually have online!
Not exactly... Auto fill is when the password manager actually fills the username and password into the fields. But you could also copy/paste.Right - when I remember using type kee pass in the past
I remember using 1 password only ,which was very long (
and then I were able to copy the passwords from the application (on the clip board of the software ) to X place on PC where needed - is that what you mean by auto fill?
Sounds like a good idea to me!and idea came to my mind - I COULD also try auto filling everything with proton pass?
cos it has a type of PIN log in -and gives options to auto generate passwords also?
Those are two different things, and you're leaving out the fact that a password manager is capable of generating strong passwords that you and I would never be able to remember...I'm not sure if there's a way though being able to mathematically figure how much more 'safe' is using auto filling
compared to "write passwords for yourself for things which are less important ?"
Yeah, that's the thing - "secure" and "tedious" are two sides of the same coin...Right? erm
Well I remember my previous keepass felt like it was getting a bit tedious says V
What your saying - like makes a new whole username and passwordNot exactly... Auto fill is when the password manager actually fills the username and password into the fields.
from the soft ware application - erm "But you could also copy/paste.
saying its better than having some passwords writing your own?Sounds like a good idea to me!
i was just writing my background thought - is there a way of being able put in perspective comparison - do you understand? Those are two different things, and you're leaving out the fact that a password manager is capable of generating strong passwords that you and I would never be able to remember...
right im not sure its worth I spend my time right now , whilst - other things I should put my attention on says VYeah, that's the thing - "secure" and "tedious" are two sides of the same coin...
I keep the username and create a new password. 1password also has a function which evaluates the strength of my passwords, and also notifies me if I have the same passwords on more than one login. What your saying - like makes a new whole username and password
I believe that, yes - the password manager creates passwords that I wouldn't be able to come up with - let alone remember.saying its better than having some passwords writing your own?
That's a judgement only you can make - but as a conclusion, my belief is that having a password manager is a good idea!i was just writing my background thought - is there a way of being able put in perspective comparison - do you understand?

right but that's not necessarily the best thing?I believe that, yes - the password manager creates passwords that I wouldn't be able to come up with - let alone remember.
Right - but thing is - start having words to make less boring - I may result to just - writing certain passwords myselfThat's a judgement only you can make - but as a conclusion, my belief is that having a password manager is a good idea!
on my paper binder your saying? To bring this discussion into the context of GTD, you could consider putting "start using a password manager" on your Someday/Maybe...
I don't know what you think is better, but in my opinion a strong password that I am not able to remember is better than a weak one that I remember or have written down - because I believe it is more secure. And as far as I know, security is the main purpose of a password.right but that's not necessarily the best thing?
Do as you please I will stick with my password manager...Right - but thing is - start having words to make less boring - I may result to just - writing certain passwords myself
Yep!on my paper binder your saying?

"well I haven't been doing that since been using new proton pass right now (which would say seems better than previous keepass)Do as you please I will stick with my password manager...
What - but I'm already using a password manager proton pass - is there misunderstanding? "Yep!
' Up to this moment in time I realised - I haven't taken the suggestions of this thread, what you suggested about passwords password implementation using the type of proton passI don't know what you think is better, but in my opinion a strong password that I am not able to remember is better than a weak one that I remember or have written down - because I believe it is more secure. I understand that starting to use a password manager can seem daunting, but in my experience it's worth it!' Up to this moment in time I realised - I haven't taken the suggestions of this thread, what you suggested about passwords password implementation using the type of proton pass
erm
and physically feel like
how I still - have ...
erm
well organization of my room isn't best
and isn't best - how have this type of hard to read password book I am referring to - for example spent over half an hour - looking over these things/details ? you understand
"but at same time feel struggle to implement to full "digital proton " idea - do you understand?
STN
@René LieI understand that starting to use a password manager can seem daunting, but in my experience it's worth it!
Just like any other project, you can break things down. Just implement the password manager for one or a few password(s) and see how it feels, then keep going until you're done!

Maybe I don't understand, but you shared that you spent half an hour looking at your book with passwords. If you use a password manager, it's all taken care of for you!' I'm not sure you understand
I'm writing - I'm not at your same personal level with proton pass ( gave reasons in the past past - can see or should I post them next
Could you give me suggestions how I can make it so get to goal of all passwords on proton pass (and no in physical writing) cos you said that's best"
or @gtdstudente "

OKMaybe I don't understand, but you shared that you spent half an hour looking at your book with passwords. If you use a password manager, it's all taken care of for you!
You don't, you let the password manager create new, strong passwords for you!OK
but - how do I transfer the passwords from "book" to the manager?
