Jumping back in after about 8 years...
I have a prediction (I'm a bit of a platform perfectionist) which is:
1. MightyNetworks will draw a different crowd.
2. The OG's on this forum will stay on this forum, as long as others also stay on this forum.
I've been toying with MightyNetworks since it first began, when Circle was in its infant years. There's really nothing that will replace the old, organized, thread-based forums because by design they encourage calmn, quiet thoughtfulness.
MightyNetworks has a warm body feel, but that is mostly a false feeling. No one really engages with others, and what happens is people sign up, post away for hours, and then drop off as soon as a shinier toy comes along. It is not built for longevity, and I myself have never stayed with a single group for more than a few weeks.
I also predict that at some point, a library of GTD content will emerge that is separate from all the forums, but can be tapped into from different angles. 2026 is a strange time. A lot of great platforms have completely shut down or been bought out, and DAUs are down on all the new-kids-on-the-block apps. Nostr and Farcaster have not taken off as predicted and no one in Community Building World really knows what's next.
Maybe it's meant to be this way!

Gmail, by itself, decided GTD emails were spam at some point. I haven't logged into Gmail in many many years, it's funny it developed its own decision-making process.

I've been here reading posts for a few days to get the feel of the GTD Forum again (so refreshing), and it looks like I missed an important development about the GTD Forum transitioning to the Mighty Networks platform. I feel very sorry and disappointed to hear about this change. Several sites I visited chose the Mighty Networks platform, and I was not happy using that platform. I like this easy to understand GTD Forum with its logical construction, easy to use format, and thoughtful, in-depth conversational exchanges that are located where they are supposed to be and stay there. I suppose we are trying to attract people, and we are expecting them to prefer a social media kind of platform, but I never felt comfortable with the Mighty Networks structure, and it does not attract me. I found it very confusing to use, even after some time. It sounds like the transition is active now and unlikely to change, so I may check it out, if I'm invited.

Actually @John Forrister hasn't stated whether this forum will be shut down -- even though I've asked him directly right here in the forum. Even if the powers that be decide to pull the plug on the forums here that are accessible only to GTD Connect subscribers, they might well decide to keep the public forum available on this platform. Or not. It's up in the air.
I think we need to be careful about guessing at the "why" behind the move. John did say this platform required an ungodly amount of customization to get it to do the things it does, where as the Mighty Networks platform doesn't require anywhere near that much work on the back-end. The people behind GTD Connect do have lives with competing demands they have to balance.

I've been interacting with the new Mighty Networks platform. It's become pretty active and there are a lot of new users posting there. The conversations have been lively, interesting and helpful (at least to me). Having spent some time on the platform, I've found it wasn't all that hard to get used to.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say those who are resisting the change are missing out. For me the benefits of the transition have far outweighed the minimal cognitive effort needed to make the switch. But people are entitled to do -- or not do -- whatever they want with their time, for their own reasons. So if anyone has decided not to hop on over to the dark side (a joke -- it's very Jedi over there, not at all Sith-y), I genuinely hope you'll take care and I hope I'll "see" you again somewhere on the interwebz.

Hi Bill, I apologize for missing a direct question. I know a couple of things for sure. Whatever we do, we won't ever just delete this forum. And GTD Connect on Mighty Networks is in for major change in the next few months. We're developing a dedicated standalone mobile app, and redesigning the interface.
Now I need to turn my Saturday attention learn more of the Star Wars references. I confess I haven't even watched most of the movies after the original three.

Well, the original three are all you need to have seen to understand the Jedi/Sith reference: Obi-Wan, Yoda and eventually Luke were all Jedi; Darth Vader was a Sith Lord. This is just one person's opinion, but the first three were really the only worthwhile ones. The prequels were just Lucas' misguided attempts to recapture lightning in a bottle. Everything afterward was just a Disney cash-grab. Again, just one person's opinion.

Come to think of it, maybe David Allen needs to learn some of those Jedi mind tricks. Instead of "these are not the droids you're looking for," he could tell people, "This amorphous to-do list is not the next action list you're looking for." Instead of training people to "trust your feelings" like Obi-Wan coached Luke to do, Allen could tell people, "Trust your trusted system if your inventory of commitments is current and complete."

Well, I don't know what the interface for customizing this platform looks like versus the tools available to design a mobile app. Designing something from the ground up may well be more efficient. Hi, John and Everyone,
I'm relieved to hear that this GTD forum will not ever be deleted. Most GTD subjects never seem to cease being relevant, so I hope all the posts remain here, even if they are also migrated to the new platform. Besides, I'm fond of people here, so being able to come to my familiar community has value for me, and the functionality of the platform thankfully makes sense to me
The problem of privacy seems to have been eclipsed, since social media and other web sites may regard their users as the product they are selling, sharing, trading, or influencing. I'm guessing that diminishing the importance of privacy may have been specifically engineered to encourage people to share their personal information, which has now become the product.
People who care about privacy, if anyone still does, might want to read and try to understand the legalese of the Privacy Policy of MIghty Networks. I've been giving this a shot, but it takes time, and it is confusing to me, and I have no clarity to report, except that there seem to be certain opt out possiblities that differ by U.S. State. The ironic thing about this is that to opt out, one must provide their personal information. I'm personally in favor of laws that prohibit data collection uness we opt in rather than requiring us to opt out.
Privacy issues concern me deeply, especially on web sites that may be collecting personal information, even though I enjoy sharing at times, so I thought I'd share this. I'm wondering whether I'm alone in these concerns.

I think some perspective might be called for here. Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, etc. do more than mine our information. They deliberately manipulate our emotions and quite literally try to get us addicted to their platforms so they can steer our eyeballs towards advertisements. Whatever "privacy sins" Mighty Networks may or may not commit, I can tell you from having engaged with the new GTD Connect platform that @John Forrister isn't doing anything remotely like that. It's just plain old GTD content and discussions, free of an manipulative, underhanded B.S.
I guess I find it difficult to relate to the resistance to the new platform because I've learned to adapt to the changes that are an inevitable part of life. I tend to reserve digging in my feet for values -- democracy, anti-racism, anti-misogyny, human rights, that sort of thing -- rather than for changes like a forum I'm interested in changing platforms. I feel like if I sweat the small stuff, I won't have any energy left for the things that matter.
But you all do you. I'm not gonna try to persuade people or drag them kicking and screaming. I'm "meeting" cool new people in the new forum, and seeing a few familiar ones too. That's good enough for me.

I will echo what others have said here, if only to just reinforce it, about my being glad as well to hear that the forum will not be deleted. That's awesome! To be fair, it's been a while since I have interacted with either of the two GTD platforms (that's life), so I haven't been keeping up with where things stood.
Though, at some point, there were some changes (I assume) on here (the GTD forums) that had the default profile pictures being replaced with question marks (which is not very inviting). At that point, I figured the forum wasn't long for this world; I de-prioritized at that point. Glad to hear that I am mistaken and that it's indeed sticking around.
As for the Mighty Networks side, honestly, I haven't really done anything on there since registering and briefly browsing around. As I said before, the style and experience that MN is going for didn't really appeal to me. That's fine and if it appeals to others, that's cool too. However, I didn't want to dismiss it (as it's the direction David Co. is going) without trying to give it a chance at least.
Now, I am not sure if it's just me, but I have _always_ had trouble just accessing the MN site at all. I figured out it was because of my ad-blockers and DNS restrictions for privacy, anti-tracking, and so forth. I did a temporary test with them disabled and the site worked. Now I am not sure if it's something on the MN platform itself or a configuration for GTD's community specifically on MN but the site has always just blank paged for me with protections on. In fairness, I didn't submit a bug report or anything like that to MN or David Co., so the issue could be fixed. That's on me. I just don't have the time or interest in playing tech support/doing free QA for sites though (specifically MN).
Furthermore, unfortunately, anti-tracking and privacy/ad-blocking always being on is a hard red line for me. I trust David's company and the great folks he has. However, I _absolutely_ unequivocally _refuse_ to disable any of my blockers or protections to use any site or service. I have been operating this way for over 12 years now. The abuse of users, invasion of privacy, and ocean of forced advertisements online is _so_ pervasive these days that it has even been officially recommended by the FBI for years to not use the internet _without_ ad-blockers and privacy protections.
Again, to be clear, I am not saying anything negative about David's team or the decisions that they have made (I completely understand their perspective around the burden of maintaining a custom distribution of XenForo), but I don't trust Mighty Networks. I have never even heard of them before GTD switched to them. Like others here, I prioritize my privacy and explicit decision to choose what I share and with whom I share it with and under what terms. I don't use social media at all either for similar reasons.
If MN ever fixes their site to comply with and be usable without tracking or ads or such, then great and I might use them then. Though as it stands, I don't see my interacting with it being very likely at all. Until then, I will use and interact with this platform for as long as it remains.
